Ways to Remain Mindful in Your Everyday Life
Mindfulness is giving attention to something and being in the moment. You forget about what happened in the past and what could happen in the future when you are mindful. You only care about what is going on in the present. Given how busy you are and everything that you need to attend to, it might be quite challenging to be mindful. If you try these things, you will learn how to be aware of your everyday life.
Pay attention to routine activities
There are things you usually do each day like brushing your teeth or taking a shower. These are everyday activities that you do for the sake of doing them. By being mindful of your actions, you will realise that every experience is different. Try appreciating the sound, smell and taste of everything you encounter. You will then recognise that these routine activities are rich and not boring at all.
Start as soon as you wake up
To be mindful, you need to start the moment you wake up. You can keep practising mindfulness activities if it is the first thing you have in your mind as you open your eyes. You might have other morning routines like drinking a cup of coffee or reading the daily newspaper. Try changing things a bit and try to meditate when you wake up. Be careful not to fall asleep though as it could be tempting.
Keep it short
You don’t need to practice mindfulness in everything that you do. You need to keep things short but fulfilling. For instance, if you are walking on the street, you can be mindful of your walk for about 15 minutes. You need to have that short moment where you forget about everything else and deal with what you have at hand.
Be mindful when you wait
It is easy becoming impatient when you wait, especially if it is taking too long. You can practise mindfulness while waiting for your order in a restaurant or when queuing. You can’t do anything about the situation, so you might as well be mindful.
Set an alarm
Sometimes, it is difficult being mindful if you don’t remind yourself. Some people look for a sign near them to tell them that it is time for their mindfulness session. You can do the same thing, or you can make it simple by setting an alarm. As soon as you receive the signal, you can drop whatever you are doing and start being mindful.
There are lots of health benefits in doing mindfulness activities. You need to be consistent though until such time that everything comes naturally to you. In the future, you can try to do mindfulness meditation teacher training and open a meditation business. Many people can benefit from mindfulness and meditation. However, they are not yet familiar with these benefits, so they don’t seem to care. You can influence them through your business. It will also be a bonus that you are doing something you love.
